The Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Scheme is a social security program that provides, medical, monetary, disablement, and other benefits to the employees of a company. The scheme is under the ESI Act, 1948 which is administered by the Employee State Insurance Corporation and government by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
ESI stands for Employee State Insurance. It is a government regulated insurance scheme for all the employees and their families as health insurance covering sickness, maternity, disability, etc.
Every shop, establishment, and factory consisting of more than 10 employees are required to register under ESI.
Employee contributes 6.5 % out of his/her total amount that goes for ESI. Only 1.75% is deducted from the employee’s salary, rest is contributed by the employer.
The government has introduced multiple health care benefits for poor families. Ones covered under NHPS scheme can access the medical facilities through ESI Hospitals. Besides, employees covered under the ESI scheme are entitled to medical treatment for them and their dependents.
The members are entitled to unemployment cash benefit, maternity and paternity benefit and allowance
